Let’s Go Walkies…

What does Paws 4 Patients involve?

Supporters on both 4 and 2 legs are encouraged to step up and walk 100km during the month of September 2023.  You can split the distance any way you wish and works out roughly 3.3km per day.

How do I record the kilometres?

Ask your human to complete the mileage card attached in your welcome email once you have signed up.  Alternatively Strava is a free, easy to use app that can track your kilometres. Link your Just Giving page to Strava so all your pawsome pals can see your progress.  You can also join the Hospice Strava Club and we can give kudos to you and your human.

Im a puppy, can I still take part?

Yes, you can still take part, but be aware not to over-exercise. The Kennel Club have lots of helpful information, please click here.

Some important tips to remember;

  • Good rule of paw is a ratio of 5 minutes of exercise per month of age (up to twice a day).  For example, if you’re is 5 months old, 5×5=25 mins of exercise.
  • As you get older, you can have longer periods of exercise.
  • It is important to exercise every day to help strengthen your muscles and bones.
  • Don’t exercise on a full stomach though as this may contribute to bloating.

Benefits of walking with your 2-legged friend

  • Reduces stress and improve mental wellbeing for your human. Walking is a great way to zone-out and get rid of stress.
  • Improve fitness. Encourages you both to be more active.
  • Lowers blood pressure. Being active can help to prevent high blood pressure for you human.
  • Discover new places. Explore your local area and find beautiful locations along the way with your human.
  • Walk and play with your human. Have fun playing with your human while getting in your daily kilometres.
  • Helps support Hospice patients and their loved ones. All the money you raise will help fund our free services to those living with a life-limiting illness in Blaenau Gwent.
