Due to the pandemic, the outpatient service at the Hospice was forced to close, due to government restrictions.  The Clinical Nurse Specialists continued to keep contact with all patients via telephone and made visits where appropriate, maintaining COVID19 guidelines and wearing PPE.

We are delighted to confirm that on the 9th March 2022, our Outpatient services resumed in a new location at Brynmawr Health and Wellbeing Centre.  Jayne Smith, Clinical Nurse Specialist now runs the Wednesday clinic from there, which gives patients the freedom and discretion to discuss what they wish out of their own home, in a safe confidential environment.

“My name is Victoria and I am a third year student at University of South Wales. Attending outpatient’s clinic was an invaluable part of my placement. Attending outpatients allows the patient to maintain independence whilst receiving support in an environment where they can talk openly”

The outpatient’s service gives patients the flexibility to make an appointment that works around their schedule and lifestyle and allows our team to see more patients as there is no travel time between visits to patient’s homes across the Borough.

There are also plans to identify other suitable venues within Blaenau Gwent to run other outpatient services from and hopefully further details on these will follow later in the year. Everything we do at the Hospice is centered around allowing patients and those who matter most to them, to live as well as they can with their diagnosis and the outpatients service is just one of the ways we try to give patients flexibility and freedom.
