A letter to a Blaenau Gwent business informing them about our first Hospice Golf Day has resulted in a close working partnership with Business Industrial Solutions based in Waun-Y-Pound, Ebbw Vale.

Prior to receiving the letter BIS had decided to send a team of 10 employees to complete the Welsh 3 peaks challenge and asked all staff to vote for a charity to raise funds for during the event.  The overwhelming majority chose the Hospice and so this along with the letter about the golf day started the relationship.  The enthusiasm and support from the staff was so great that BIS decided to make the hospice their chosen charity for 2022/3.

BIS specializes in industrial supplies and facilities management and employs 48 people many of whom live in Blaenau Gwent. Julie Williams, Business & Community Fundraising Manager at the Hospice visited to chat to Delilah Howells (General Manager) and Dean Taylor (CEO) to tell them about the vital work of the Hospice and find out more about BIS and the very positive working culture of the company and its employees.

They were open and enthusiastic to the idea of our Deputy Head of Clinical Services Kim Jones along with Julie talking to staff about the Hospice and how their support will make a difference. A number of presentations were delivered to staff and this had a tremendous impression on all, they have worked tirelessly since to support the Hospice wherever possible. They began with a group taking on the Wales 3 Peaks and since then have taken part in our Golf Day, fundraised for our Go Yellow and 12 Ways of Christmas Campaign, sponsored Events to buying tickets to support our Summer Raffle. On top of this staff supported our Write a Will Campaign by having their Will professionally written in return for making a donation to the Hospice for this service.

Julie Williams said “We have been so impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm of BIS and it’s staff, the fact that they have raised £7,465.88p since August 2021 is testament to this. Anything we discuss with them they look to see how they can help and have such a positive mindset. What they have raised to date is well on the way to typically funding two days of care from across all our services. We are so excited to see this partnership going from strength to strength and are so grateful to them for their support”.
