Saying goodbye and thank you to trustee Allan!
As a small charity our trustees play a key role in our organisation. At Hospice of the Valleys we are fortunate to have trustees with a vested interest in the local area, who bring their business and strategic expertise to the table, along with life experience. This January long standing Hospice of the Valleys Trustee, Allan Harris, has announced his retirement from the Board and on behalf of all our staff, volunteers, patients and their loved ones, we would like to thank Allan for his valuable contribution over the years.
Allan, a Financial Advisor became a Hospice of the Valleys Trustee in October 2001 and has helped guide the charity during its growth from an organisation with a staff of 15 to the larger organisation it is today. Allan has always been an active and committed member of our Board of Trustees, serving on our Finance Committee, as Vice Chair of the Board and as interim Chair for the last year. In addition to volunteering on our Board of Trustees, Allan can often be spotted at Hospice of the Valleys events and has raised the profile of the charity considerably over the past 22 years, through his reputation and relationships within our local community.
Now a semi-retired Financial Advisor, Allan spends as much time as possible in Australia visiting family but, his dedication to Hospice of the Valleys has never wavered.
Here’s what Allan had to say about his time on the Board of Trustees at Hospice of the Valleys………..
“It has been a privilege to serve our local hospice as a volunteer trustee for over 22 years, probably the longest serving trustee in its history, seeing it grow and develop in order to provide the best services for our communities when they need it most.
The role of a trustee is wide and varied and although our aim is to add benefit to the hospice, with the wide and diverse board members it is evitable that you also benefit from learning in areas that you are not familiar with.
I will retire knowing that I have in a small way added to the development of a great organization which touches and will continue to touch many in our area.
I would like to wish the staff, volunteers and our board all the very best for the future”
Thank you to Allan for his commitment, support, his insight, energy and guidance, without such volunteers, none of our work would be possible, 22 years as a Trustee is truly remarkable. We wish you all the best for the future.
