What were your reasons for wanting to volunteer in one of our charity shops/with us?

Clare said “I wanted to meet new people, learn new skills and to interact with the customers that came into the shop. It was a way for me to improve my social skills”  Mandy agreed that volunteering in the shops was a way to “to meet new people and to gain experience & some new skills in retail.”

Why have you stayed with us for this long?

Clare said “I enjoy the role, the environment and all the people that come into the shop, that being both other volunteers and customers. I also like the tasks that I do every week, I have really made it my own”  While Mandy enjoys “the till work, steaming items, recycling, pricing and sizing of the donated clothing.”

What do you enjoy most about being a Hospice of the Valleys volunteer?

“I like seeing what items will come in and then going through them and sorting out all the DVD’s/CD’s and making sure that the content is appropriate to go on the shop floor” said Clare. Meanwhile, Mandy “likes keeping busy and being around people in the shop when she volunteers.”

Would you recommend volunteering with the Hospice of the Valleys?

Both Clare and Mandy would recommend volunteering and being an active member of the Abertillery Hospice of the Valley’s group, they feel that it’s a good place to be and like giving back to their local community.
