Celebrate the life of someone special this summer
We warmly invite you to be part of our new and very special Sunflower Celebration this summer, whereby we celebrate the lives of those loved ones we miss and cherish each day.
You can remember your loved one by purchasing one of our stunning Sunflowers in their memory. Your loved ones Sunflower will then form part of a beautiful display at Bedwellty House & Park from Friday 12th July – Sunday 14th July.
Please note our online sunflower sales have now closed. You can still purchase a sunflower to celebrate your loved on by contacting the office on 01495 717277 until 4.30pm on Thursday 11th July or at Bedwellty House and Park on Saturday 13th July between 10.30am – 4.00pm and Sunday 14th July between 11.00am – 12.30pm.
On the final day of the Sunflower display (Sunday 14th July) we invite everyone to come together for an uplifting celebration event, this will be held at the bandstand in Bedwellty Park and will start at 1pm. After the event, you will be able to collect your loved ones sunflower and take it away to cherish and display at home in your own garden or in another special place, as a lasting tribute to their life and memory.
We are delighted to have partnered with Timpson to provide the opportunity to have your loved ones Sunflower engraved for a nominal charge of £3.00 (maximum of 25 characters). Once you collect your Sunflower following the display you will need to take it along to the Timpson in Ebbw Vale Tesco, show your purchase confirmation and they will engrave it for you. This is an extra way you can make your loved ones Sunflower personalised to them.
This is a new campaign for 2024 and we really hope you will be able to support, we feel it is a special and unique way for people within the local community to come together with others and celebrate the lives of their loved ones, while also helping to raise vital funds for the Hospice and the continued work we do.
At Hospice of the Valleys we truly understand how it can feel when a loved one passes away. Providing people with a means to remember, talk about and celebrate the lives of those loved ones is an important part of the work we do and we really hope you will be able to join with Lisa and many others to be part of our special celebration this summer
“It’s important to have the opportunity to remember our loved ones, it is comforting for me”
Lisa Bevan will be supporting the Sunflower celebration and remembering both her mum Glenys and dad Patrick, who were both cared for by the Hospice.
Lisa was the main carer for both her mum and dad for many years and reflects on the support the Hospice provided for her family at a time when they needed it the most.
“The support of the Hospice gave mam the confidence and reassurance that she could stay at home where she wanted to be at the end of her life and also helped ease my stress and worry, knowing they were always on the end of the phone when I needed them”.
The Hospice were first involved with Lisa’s parents back in 2018 when Patrick her dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. “Someone from the Hospice would call every week to keep an eye on dad and also see how mum was coping as she also had heart failure” Lisa recalls.
Sadly after Patrick passed away in October 2018, Glenys’ condition also deteriorated and in September 2021 she had a heart attack. “Mam was my best friend and I always said I would look after her until the very end, the Hospice helped me do this. In the last week of mam’s life I couldn’t have done it on my own, the Hospice were amazing”.
After Glenys passed at home on 19th December 2021, Lisa found it very hard as she had spent so many years caring for both her parents and now she was left with a massive void in her life. Lisa accessed bereavement support from our Social Worker. “Jill was a massive support, I could just sit and cry and she would listen, it really helped release some of my pain”.
