SUMMARY:Peru; Salkantay Trek and Machu Picchu Trek
DESCRIPTION:OVERVIEW\nVoted one of the top 25 treks in the world\, this challenging expedition will take us beneath spectacular Andean peaks\, through epic Peruvian landscapes and misty cloud forest. \nAfter an overnight stay at a hotel in Lima\, we begin our adventure by taking a domestic flight to the colonial town of Cusco then spend a day exploring the sights of the Sacred Valley while acclimatising to the high altitude of the region. \nThe next day we will begin our hike along the Salkantay trail. The route follows an ancient and remote Inca footpath\, where snow-capped mountains collide with lush tropical rain forests. The paths are filled with wild strawberries\, colourful butterflies and other exotic flora and fauna. Off the beaten path\, this trek is one of the most interesting and challenging ways to experience the land of the ancient Incas. One of the highlights will be catching our first glimpse of Machu Picchu across the valley. We will spend our last night of the trek at the spa town of Aguas Calientes and in the morning we will take a short transfer to the ancient site where we enjoy a guided tour\, unlocking the mysteries of this glorious ancient city. After returning to Cusco we will have our final celebratory meal in this stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site\, before returning home via Lima the following day. \n  \nTo find out more about this amazing trek and to BOOK\, please visit\nThe Different Travel Company\n  \n        \n  \nITINERARY\nDay 1 (Saturday 9 November 2024):\nLondon – Lima\nFly from London to Peru’s capital city\, Lima. On January 8th 2019\, just eight days before his 50th birthday\, Dad sadly passed away. \nFrom start to finish\, day or night\, the Hospice of the Valleys were there to support Dad and ease his pain. The gratitude we as a family have for the Hospice can’t be said in a thank you. No one realises just know how much they actually do for you\, until you experience something as traumatic yourself. \nRunning the Cardiff half marathon together\, gave us something to focus on and work towards\, whilst still grieving the death of Dad. At the beginning\, running as little as 3 miles for any of us was a challenge\, so 13.1 miles sounded crazy! \nHowever\, after months of hard work and determination\, the training finally paid off when we crossed that finish line! I know that Dad would have been proud of us all. Together we have raised money for a wonderful charity. Thank you from the bottom our hearts” \nThank you from everyone here at the Hospice.

It is as the name suggests: a bare foot walk over red-hot wood embers measuring around 800 degrees. No tricks\, no special effects. Just you and the fire. \nThe decision to walk across the coals is dramatically life changing. Not because you have decided to fire walk in itself\, but because you have consciously decided not to let your fear inhibit your actions. Once you take the power away from fear\, there is really nothing stopping you. After all if you can walk safely across hot coals what else is possible? \n  \nGlass walking explained; \n“Glass walking is the act of walking barefoot over a bed of broken glass.  Not flat plate glass but curved broken bottles.  The glass is real and the sharp edges have not been removed”! Time4Change \nFour metres of smashed sterile wine bottle glass lie before you\, the centrepiece of a glass walking event. You’re invited to walk across – could you? \nGlass walking isn’t just about beating fear\nMany of you will have heard the expression “walking on egg shells”\, which is a metaphor to explain how an individual may feel in a temperamental or fragile relationship. Walking on glass is an exercise in challenging and developing the mind/body connection. It can prove to be a rewarding and unforgettable experience in your journey to a greater understanding of how to breakdown sub conscious and deep routed fears we carry around with us. \n  \n \n  \n \n\n\n  \nMeet our Corporate Sponsor\nHowden is thrilled to extend its support to the Hospice of the Valleys. The hospice holds a special place in the hearts of our employees and the broader community in which we live and operate. We take pride in backing their exceptional community work and aspire to sustain this partnership for years to come. As a demonstration of our commitment\, we are honoured to sponsor the 2024 Fire & Glass Walk. \n\n\n  \nPhoto Gallery\n     \n  \n \n\n\nTestimonies\nSharren Elliott Posted to Time4Change \n“In all honesty\, I was probably dreading the training session a little bit more than the fire walk itself- I was so wrong! – The training session was one of the best experiences I have had – the whole night was unbelievable and I can’t recommend it enough as a “must do” if you ever get the opportunity – thank you for a fabulous night and experience!” \n  \n“Cliff was inspirational when training a group of novices to fire walk. His motivational techniques were superb\, and use of NLP skills in the non-corporate environment could just as easily been translated into the workplace. I shall certainly be recommending the activity to my company as a great growth exercise\, and recommending Cliff as a towering force of positivity!” \n  \nLiz Silvester posted to Time4Change \nA brilliant evening in Eastbourne last night.  Never firewalked before and was a little nervous.  After two hours of listening to Cliff\, the firewalk was a doddle.  In fact\, I think I could have done anything.  Still feel like that today!  Thank you Cliff. \n  \nHelen Pirie posted to Time4Change \nI feel quite humbled by the whole experience last night – such an incredible inner peace – the community spirit\, the amazing organisations\, the amount raised – just wonderful! Like I said to Mia Sampietro… I expected empowerment\, elation and a feeling of ‘if I can do this\, I can do anything!’  What I didn’t expect was an amazing inner silence and the realisation that I had that strength in me all along.  Thank you so much – the talk you gave along with the actual firewalking experience will stick with me!

Amazingly despite a long recovery following surgery to remove the lower lobe of his lung\, he recovered well and follow up checks confirmed that the surgery was a success and the cancer was gone. \nKeith slowly started to get better and become stronger\, however by August the family noticed he was becoming increasingly tired\, weak and off his food. Blood tests confirmed that Keith’s calcium levels were up and following scans the families worst nightmares were confirmed – Keith’s cancer had returned and was aggressively attacking his liver\, pelvis and other organs. And the devastating news followed that Keith was terminal and so he was referred to the Hospice again. It was terminal. \nHayley describes how “The hospice not only supported my father with daily visits\, they spent time chatting with him and sharing his humour. They saw my father as a man with dignity and pride\, still very much head of our family. They supported him with personal care and provided us with a break from our caring role. The staff from the hospice spent time chatting with us and easing our worries if only a little\, they were extremely empathetic towards the whole family and enabled us to keep my father at home until the end”. \nSadly Keith passed away on 8th October 2016 surrounded by his wife\, Beverley\, two sons\, Justin and Luke\, Hayley\, his granddaughter Casey and beloved boxer dog Skye. \n“We will be forever grateful to all the hospice team for the support\, kindness and care they provided to our family at the hardest time of our lives. \n\n  \nMeet Our Sponsors\nBusiness Industrial Solutions Ltd (BIS) is an industrial supplies and facilities management company.
