DESCRIPTION:Take on an unforgettable hiking challenge this September and help support what matters most in our community. \nEnjoy breathtaking scenery\, challenge yourself alongside fellow supporters\, and raise vital funds to help Hospice of the Valleys continue supporting people living with a life-limiting condition and their loved ones through some of life’s most challenging moments. \nEvery step you take will help us be there for local people\, supporting them to live well for as long as possible\, guided by what matters most to them. \n  \n \nChallenge Details\nDate: Saturday 5 September 2026 \nTime: Meet at 7.45am for an 8.30am start\n(Please allow time to register and collect your Hospice t-shirt and buff.) \nLocation: Abergavenny \nMeeting Point: Skirrid Car Park\, NP7 8AP \nFrom the A465 Hereford road bypassing Abergavenny\, turn left onto the B4521 old Monmouth road. The car park is located about 1.5 to 2 miles on your left.Monmouth Road. \nRegistration Fee: £15 \nFundraising Target: £150 \n\nWhat’s Included\n\nA fully guided hike led by qualified walk instructors\nHospice of the Valleys t-shirt\nHospice of the Valleys buff\nSupport from our event team throughout the day\n\nRoute\nA good level of fitness is required\, but the challenge is incredibly rewarding and suitable for anyone looking to push themselves while supporting their local hospice. \nDistance: 21 km | Total Ascent: 3\,224 ft   Please click on the map below to take you to the OS route\n\n\n\nStarting at the top of the Mardy\, Abergavenny\,  you’ll make your way through the Deri before following scenic hillside paths to the iconic Sugar Loaf. After taking in spectacular views from the summit\, the route continues through the beautiful countryside around Llanfihangel Crucorney and onto the renowned Beacons Way.\n\nThe challenge finishes with a climb up the Skirrid’s famous North Face – a short but steep ascent that rewards you with incredible views and a real sense of achievement. With stunning scenery\, great company and the knowledge that you’re supporting local people and their loved ones\, this is a hike to remember. \n\n\nEvent Information\nFundraising\nAs a charity\, Hospice of the Valleys relies on the generosity of our community to continue supporting people and their loved ones when they need us most. \nWe ask all participants to aim to raise a minimum of £150. Your fundraising will help ensure local people can continue to access the support they need\, shaped around what matters most to them. \nWhen you register\, we’ll provide everything you need to get started\, including details on setting up a JustGiving page and a sponsorship form as part of your welcome pack. \n \nDuration\nThis is not a race. We’ll walk together at a comfortable and supportive pace\, taking time to enjoy the surroundings and each other’s company. \nThe 21-km route is expected to take approximately seven hours\, including comfort stops and a lunch break. \nEvent Support\nOur experienced walk leaders will support participants throughout the route\, with leaders positioned at the front and rear of the group\, and additional support provided where needed. \nSupport will be available at scheduled stops to encourage you along the way\, provide water and basic snack refuelling\, offer basic first aid\, and assist anyone \nJoin Us\nChallenge yourself\, enjoy an incredible day outdoors\, and help Hospice of the Valleys continue supporting people and their loved ones across our community. \nTogether\, we can help ensure more people receive the support they need\, when it matters most. \n  \nFitness: \n  \n \n  \n  \nKit: \n \n  \n\n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n
