Virtual London Marathon 2020

October 4 @ 12:01 am - 11:59 pm

Virtual 40th Anniversary London Marathon

Sunday 4th October 2020

Hospice of the Valleys is super excited to announce it has secured a charity space for the Virtual 40th Anniversary London Marathon taking place on Sunday 4th October.

“The world’s greatest marathon, from wherever you are – it’s your chance to do The 40th Race your way!

Covid-19 has meant it has not been possible for it to go ahead in the way that it has every year since 1981. The health and safety of the runners, charities, sponsors, volunteers, medics, and communities are always priority for London Marathon organisers.”  Virgin London Marathon Events Team.

The Virgin Money London Marathon – Your Way

For the first time ever, Virgin London Marathon organiser’s are inviting participants to run the London Marathon your way, joining up to 45,000 runners up and down the UK – and across the world.

The virtual 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon will take place on Sunday 4 October and participants will have 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds (from 00:00 to 23:59:59 BST) to complete the 26.2 miles, which you can choose to run, walk or jog – making the event the most inclusive London Marathon ever.

Support for participants

Although The 40th Race will be run remotely, participants will still receive support and advice, both on event day and during the lead-up to it.

As well as allowing you to track and log your 26.2 miles, the Virgin Money London Marathon app, powered by TCS, will help bring the virtual experience to life, with an exclusive audio commentary featuring famous voices providing a memorable soundtrack to the day.

In addition, a huge range of support materials and training guidance from Virgin Money London Marathon experts will be available on their website, via newsletters and on social media channels – including Facebook Live Q&A sessions.

A chance to be creative!

Taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon, your way, also means participants can be creative with the challenge that lies ahead!

Ideas include:

  • Being dropped 26.2 miles from home and running back to a hero’s welcome
  • Completing each mile with a different running buddy, sharing the challenge with friends and family
  • Getting together with a group of friends to walk the 26.2 miles together
  • Creating a unique course that visits the homes of friends and family so they can set up outdoor drinks stations for a refuel and catch-up over an energy bar

With loved ones and your community supporting you, participants will be joining thousands of runners in a celebration of everything the London Marathon embodies – fun, fundraising, fancy-dress and amazing community spirit.

The 2020 Virgin London Marathon points to note

  • Entrants must be 18 or over on Sunday 4 October 2020
  • All 26.2 miles must be completed on Sunday 4 October 2020
  • The 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon virtual event is not held on closed roads
  • Participants need to observe the current government guidance on social distancing during the event
  • The 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon app, powered by TCS, requires the participant to enable GPS to track their 26.2 miles
  • Tracking information will be used to produce the individual certificate unique to the participant
  • Runners are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration during the event
  • All participants will be asked to upload proof of their time and official results will be published
  • Participants in The 40th Race may be eligible to apply for a Good for Age or Championship place in the 2021 London Marathon and for the London Classics medal – if they do so they will be asked to provide supplementary evidence. Further information will be published by 31 August
