The Big Stay Awake for Hospice of the Valleys is a chance to raise funds and shine a light on the incredible work our Hospice at Home team do on a daily basis. Allowing families to stay together and making sure the final wishes of our patients are realised. Families like Anthony Fletchers.

Anthony lived with his wife Marlene and had a very supportive family. His family were ‘his world’ as he always told everyone and his  whole working and retired life revolved around making sure they were all ok and had everything they needed.

Anthony became a Hospice of the Valleys patient in September 2023 and sadly passed away later that month. Here his daughter Lynne talks about the support Anthony and the family received from the Hospice and in particular the Hospice at Home Service.

“Dad wanted to remain at home with his family and did not want to be admitted to hospital. The Hospice at Home service helped the us to achieve this wish. The service allowed Mam, who is 84, to rest at night and allowed the rest of the family to do so also. We felt safe and reassured that there was somebody with him. I don’t think that we would have coped without the service.  Having someone there to say ‘go on Marlene go to bed’ was such a blessing.”

“The support from the Hospice allowed Dad to stay home with his family which was all that he would have wanted”.

The Big Stay Awake campaign is all about supporters pledging to give up one night sleep just like our Health Care Assistants do most nights – and showing your support while helping to raise vital funds towards such an invaluable service.

Could you sacrifice one night’s sleep and get sponsored to do so! If you could or you would like to find out more info visit: www.hospiceofthevalleys.org.uk/the-big-stay-awake/
